DIGITAL ART AND GRAPHIC DESIGN 1

Grades 10–12; fall/spring semester; ½ credit

Digital Art will teach students the concepts and aesthetics of computer generated graphic design. Students learn about graphic design while working in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as well as with traditional art and design media. Projects involve digital imaging, figure ground, iconography, typography, identity design, composition, and infographic design. The student’s creative process and problem-solving skills are emphasized throughout the course.

FIGUREGROUND PROJECT

Figure–ground organization is a type of perceptual grouping which is a vital necessity for recognizing objects through vision. In Gestalt psychology it is known as identifying a figure from the background. For example, you see words on a printed paper as the "figure" and the white sheet as the "background". Based on the foundational concept of figure-ground, students will create their figure-ground composition in Photoshop, borrowing from the techniques and visual appeal of scanograms and photograms.
